Accidents happen, and sometimes red wine finds its way onto wallpaper. This can be a tricky stain to remove, as wallpaper typically contains delicate materials. If not taken care of properly, you could end up with a bigger mess than you started with. It’s important to act quickly and use the right cleaning method for your type of wallpaper.
The first step is to scrape off as much of the wine as possible with a plastic spoon or credit card. Be careful not to damage the wallpaper in the process. Once you have removed as much of the wine as you can, blot the area with a cloth or sponge to absorb more liquid.
The next step is to make a cleaning solution. Combine one cup of warm water with one teaspoon of dishwashing liquid and mix thoroughly. This solution can be used to remove tough stains. Test it on an inconspicuous spot of wallpaper to make sure it doesn’t cause discoloration.
Once you are sure that your cleaning solution won’t damage the wallpaper, dab the stained area lightly with a damp cloth soaked in the solution. You may need to repeat this process several times until the stain fades away. When you are finished, rinse the area with plain water.
If the stain is still visible after trying these methods, you may need to gently scrub the area with an old toothbrush and a small amount of the cleaning solution. Use a light touch and don't be too aggressive, as this could damage wallpaper. If the stain persists, try using a white vinegar solution.
Mix one tablespoon of white vinegar with one cup of warm water and dab the area with a cloth soaked in the mixture. This should help to remove the stain, but be sure to rinse area with plain water afterwards. Once the stain has been removed, dry the area with a cloth or paper towel.
