Gather Supplies

The supplies you need to remove a red wine stain from fabric will depend on the type of fabric you need to clean. Start by gathering the following items:

  • Dishwashing soap
  • White vinegar or lemon juice
  • Salt
  • Baking soda
  • A clean towel

Moisten the Stain

The first step is to moisten area around the stain with water. Then, rub a drop of dishwashing detergent into the stain. This will help to break down the proteins in red wine and make it easier to remove.

Mix a Cleaning Solution

Once the area is moistened, mix a small amount of vinegar or lemon juice in a bowl with a teaspoon of baking soda and a tablespoon of salt. Stir the mixture until the baking soda and salt dissolve. This combination will help to lift the stain from fabric.

Apply the Cleaning Solution

Take a clean towel and soak it in the cleaning solution. Apply the towel to the stained area and press gently. You may need to use a gentle scrubbing motion. Allow the solution to sit on the fabric for about 10 minutes before rinsing with cold water.

Repeat as Necessary

If the stain is still visible, repeat the process until it is removed. If the stain remains after several attempts, dilute the cleaning solution with more water and try again.

Finish with a Rinse

When the stain is gone, rinse uniform with cold water to remove any residue. Hang the uniform up to air dry, being careful not to use a direct heat source or put it in the dryer. Once uniform is completely dry, it should look good as new.
