Things You Will Need

  • White cloth
  • Club soda or white vinegar
  • Dishwashing detergent
  • Warm water

Step 1: Remove Excess Wine

The first step is to remove as much of wine as possible from the surface of the tie. Use a white cloth to blot away the wine. Do not rub, as this could cause the stain to spread further.

Step 2: Soak

Once most of the excess wine has been removed, use a white cloth soaked in either club soda or white vinegar and water to moisten the stained area. Let sit for 10 minutes.

Step 3: Add Detergent

After stain has been soaked in the soda or vinegar, apply a few drops of dishwashing detergent directly to the stained area. Rub the detergent into fabric with your fingers and let it sit for 10 minutes.

Step 4: Rinse and Dry

Finally, rinse the tie with warm water and hang it up to air dry. The red wine stain should be completely gone!

How can I make sure the stain is fully removed?

After rinsing the detergent off the tie, lay it flat on a table and inspect the area for any remaining stains. If necessary, repeat Steps 2-4 until the stain is fully gone.

Can I use other cleaners besides club soda and vinegar?

Yes, other kinds of mild cleaners can be used such as rubbing alcohol, hydrogen peroxide, or baking soda. Experiment with different cleaners to see which one works best for your particular tie.
