First, as soon as the stain appears, blot it with a clean, damp cloth or sponge. Keep blotting until it stops absorbing liquid. Then rinse the area with cold water.

Next, make a cleaning solution by mixing 1 teaspoon of liquid dishwashing detergent in 2 cups of lukewarm water. Take a clean cloth and dip it in the cleaning solution. Blot the stained area until the stain lifts, and then rinse with cold water.

If the stain remains, mix up a solution of 1 tablespoon of white vinegar and 1/2 tablespoon of salt dissolved in 1 cup of warm water. Dip a clean cloth into this mixture and then dab it onto the stained area. Rinse with cool water and repeat if necessary.

As a last resort, purchase a gentle cleaning solution that is specifically made for cleaning silk ties. Follow the directions on the package, but be sure to test the solution on a small, inconspicuous part of the tie before applying it to the stain.

By following these simple steps, you can easily remove red wine stains from your tie and rescue your favorite accessory from disaster.
