When your stockings take a spill of red wine, don't panic! There are some simple steps you can take to get rid of the stain. Here's what to do:

  • Blot the stained area with a paper towel to soak up as much wine as possible.
  • Mix one teaspoon of liquid dishwashing detergent with two cups of cold water.
  • Soak the stained area of the stocking in soapy water.
  • Scrub the stained area gently with a soft-bristled toothbrush.
  • Rinse out the detergent with cold water.
  • If any stain remains, mix 2 tablespoons of white vinegar with 1 cup of warm water, then soak the stained area for 30 minutes.
  • Rinse with cold water.
  • Sponge area with rubbing alcohol and blot the excess moisture away with a tissue.
  • Allow the stockings to air dry.

If the red wine stain persists, try using a commercial wash designed to remove laundry stains. Follow the directions on the package. If all else fails, it may be time to relegate those stockings to the rag bin.
