The first step to removing a red wine stain from a skirt is to act quickly. Blot the area with a towel or cloth to soak up as much of the liquid as possible.
After this, you need to start laundering the skirt. Before you begin, remove any excess wine. You can do this by using a vacuum cleaner or by using a paper towel or rag to blot the remaining wine.
Run cold water over the stained area of the skirt to flush out as much of the wine as possible. You can also pre-treat the spot with a chemical stain remover to help break down the stain.
Finally, it’s time to get the skirt into the washing machine. Select a cool cycle and add a mild detergent. If the stain has already set into the fabric, you may need to use a heavy-duty laundry detergent to get it out.
Once the washing cycle is complete, inspect the stain. If it’s still visible, it may need to be treated with an enzyme-based stain remover before being washed again.
If you’re worried about spills and stains ruining your favorite skirts, there are some measures you can take to prevent them. When you’re out and about, keep stain removal wipes or a mini stain stick with you in case of emergencies.
If you tend to spill red wine, try wearing a black skirt which doesn’t show stains easily. You can also buy a waterproof, anti-stain jacket to wear over your skirt while you’re drinking, which will help to protect your outfit if you do have a spill.
