Removing Red Wine Stains from Silk Tussah
- Blot the stain with a white towel. Do not rub; this may spread the stain further.
- Rinse with cold water. Gently rinse the stain with cold water until the area is saturated.
- Add mild detergent. Add a mild detergent (such as dishwashing liquid) and gently work it into the stain with a white cloth.
- Try vinegar. Mix one part white vinegar and one part water, then gently blot the stain. Do not rub.
- Try baking soda. If the stain is still visible, sprinkle the stain with baking soda and let sit for 10 minutes. Then, gently brush off with a soft cloth.
- Repeat if necessary. If the stain is still there, repeat steps 1-5 until the stain is gone.
Other Tips
- Don’t use hot water, as this can set the stain.
- Don’t use a chemical cleaner, as this could damage or discolor the silk.
- Don’t put silk in the washing machine, as this could damage or shrink the fabric.
- Make sure to test any cleaner or solution in an inconspicuous area of the fabric before using it on the stain.
