The first step is to blot up as much of the red wine as possible. Do not rub or scrub at the fabric, as this may push stain further into the material. Use a clean towel or napkin to blot the area until no more liquid can be absorbed.
Once the majority of the red wine has been blotted away, use white wine to lift the remaining color from silk. Blot area with a new piece of clean towel or cloth soaked in white wine. You should see the red stain start to lighten. Do not rub or scrub the area.
Using a mild soap detergent, create a soapy solution in a bowl. Soak the stained area in the solution for 10–15 minutes. After soaking, rinse the area thoroughly with cool water.
Once the detergent has been rinsed out of the fabric, do not put the garment in dryer. Allow the silk chiffon to air dry completely. This will ensure the stain has been completely removed before the garment is put back into regular use.
Red wine stains can wreak havoc on silk chiffon garments, but with the simple steps outlined above, the stain can be removed without damaging the fabric. Blot, use white wine, soak in a mild detergent, and thenallow the fabric to air dry. Your silk chiffon will be restored to its former glory!
