Instructions
- Soak up as much of spilled liquid as you can with a paper towel or dry cloth.
- Dampen a clean washcloth with cold water, and then apply a small amount of dish soap to it.
- Gently dab the affected area of the fabric with the damp washcloth. Don't scrub!!
- Rinse out the soapy solution by applying a new damp cloth with only cold water to the area.
- Dip a new cloth into a solution of one part white vinegar and one part water. Dab the stained area.
- Mix a tablespoon of salt with a cup of warm water and use this solution to rinse the stained area of fabric.
- Lay the fabric flat and allow it to dry completely.
- Check the stained area. If the stain is still visible, repeat these instructions until the stain has been removed.
Tips
- Act quickly when removing a red wine stain from silk fabric as the sooner you tackle the stain, the better chance you have at removing it entirely.
- Never rub the fabric as this will only push the stain deeper into the material.
- Always test any cleaning solution on a non-visible area of the fabric before using it on the stained area.
- Best practice is to not use hot water on silk as this can weaken the fabric.
- If stain does not come out, consider consulting a professional dry cleaner for assistance.
