Instructions

  1. Soak up as much of spilled liquid as you can with a paper towel or dry cloth.
  2. Dampen a clean washcloth with cold water, and then apply a small amount of dish soap to it.
  3. Gently dab the affected area of the fabric with the damp washcloth. Don't scrub!!
  4. Rinse out the soapy solution by applying a new damp cloth with only cold water to the area.
  5. Dip a new cloth into a solution of one part white vinegar and one part water. Dab the stained area.
  6. Mix a tablespoon of salt with a cup of warm water and use this solution to rinse the stained area of fabric.
  7. Lay the fabric flat and allow it to dry completely.
  8. Check the stained area. If the stain is still visible, repeat these instructions until the stain has been removed.

Tips

  • Act quickly when removing a red wine stain from silk fabric as the sooner you tackle the stain, the better chance you have at removing it entirely.
  • Never rub the fabric as this will only push the stain deeper into the material.
  • Always test any cleaning solution on a non-visible area of the fabric before using it on the stained area.
  • Best practice is to not use hot water on silk as this can weaken the fabric.
  • If stain does not come out, consider consulting a professional dry cleaner for assistance.
