Step 1: Blot the Stain

As soon as you spill the wine, take a paper towel or napkin and blot the spot to remove as much of the stain as possible. Do not rub fabric, as this can cause stain to spread.

Step 2: Dilute the Stain

Mix one part colorless dishwashing liquid with two parts cold water and gently apply it to stained area with a clean cloth. Gently dab stained area to form a lather. Do not scrub, as this can damage the fabric.

Step 3: Rinse in Cold Water

Rinse the stained area with cold water until all soap is gone.

Step 4: Soak in Salt Water

Fill a bowl with 3-4 tablespoons of salt and cold water, enough to cover the stained area. Soak the stained area of the scarf in the solution for up to 30 minutes.

Step 5: Launder the Scarf

Remove the scarf from the salt solution and rinse in cold water. Follow fabric's washing instructions to wash the scarf. Hang or lay flat to dry.
