We’ve all been there. That moment when you reach for the bottle of pinot noir and it tips over, spilling the rioja on your favorite raincoat. But don’t despair! There are ways to tackle the stain before it sets in and damages your beloved outerwear.

What You'll Need

Before you begin, gather the following items:

  • White vinegar
  • Salt
  • Mild detergent
  • Cold water

Tackling The Stain

Begin by immediately removing item of clothing and soaking the affected area in cold water. This will help prevent the stain from setting further into the fabric.

Then, combine equal parts white vinegar and salt and stir until it forms a paste-like consistency. Generously rub the paste onto the stain and let it sit for a few minutes.

Next, scrub the area using mild detergent. Work up a lather and use a toothbrush if necessary for tougher stains. Be careful not to scrub too hard as this can damage fabric.

Finally, rinse the area with cold water and let dry. Repeat the process if the stain has not been sufficiently lifted. It is important to let the raincoat dry each time.
