What You Will Need

  • Gallon-size plastic container
  • White vinegar
  • Baking soda
  • Liquid laundry detergent
  • Salt
  • Clean white towel

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Fill the plastic container with cold water and add 1 cup of white vinegar.
  2. Dip the stained piece of poplin fabric into container so that it is fully submerged. Let it soak for 10 minutes.
  3. While the fabric is soaking, mix a solution of 1/4 cup of baking soda and 1/4 cup of liquid laundry detergent in a small bowl.
  4. After the fabric has soaked for 10 minutes, take it out of container and lay it flat on the clean white towel. Make sure the fabric isn’t dripping wet.
  5. Sprinkle a generous amount of salt on top of the stain. This will help absorb any remaining liquid and act as a mild abrasive.
  6. Pour the solution of baking soda and laundry detergent onto the stain and let it sit for 15 minutes.
  7. Once the 15 minutes are up, dab the stain with a damp, clean cloth to remove any excess liquid.
  8. Rinse the fabric under cold water and let air dry.

Tips and Tricks

  • Always treat stained area with cold water since hot temperatures can cause the stain to set.
  • If you don’t have access to a plastic container, a nook or sink will also do the trick.
  • Once the garment is washed, inspect the area again to make sure all of the stain is gone.
