Step 1: Remove as Much Wine as Possible

The first step is to remove as much of the wine as possible before it has a chance to penetrate pillow's fibers. Blot up the spilled wine very gently with a clean, dry cloth or paper towel. Be careful not to press too hard or you may end up pushing the stain into the fabric.

Step 2: Make a Cleaning Solution

Once initial spill of wine is taken care of, make a cleaning solution by combining one teaspoon of liquid detergent with two cups of warm water. Dip a clean cloth into your mixture and blot the stain. Again, ensure that you're not pressing too hard or you may spread stain further.

Step 3: Rinse With Cold Water

Next, wet a fresh cloth with cold water. Blot the spot until it's saturated. This will help to rinse out any soap residue that may have been left behind when you were cleaning the stain.

Step 4: Apply Ammonia

If the stain persists, try using ammonia. Create a mixture of one teaspoon of clear ammonia and one cup of water. Dip a clean cloth into this mixture, then use it to soak the affected area. Once the area is completely soaked, blot the spot vigorously with a dry cloth.

Step 5: Follow Up With Vinegar

Now it’s time to apply vinegar. Mix ½ cup of white vinegar and ½ cup of water and pour it onto the stain. Allow it to sit for a few minutes before blotting with a dry cloth.

Step 6: Soak With Detergent

Finally, if the stain still remains, it may be time to break out the heavy guns. Create a solution of one tablespoon of liquid detergent and two cups of warm water. Dip a clean cloth into this mixture and rub it into the stain for one minute. Let it sit for about five minutes before rinsing with cold water. Then, lay the pillow on a flat surface and let it air-dry.

Conclusion

Cleaning red wine out of pillows isn’t always easy, but if you follow these steps you should be able to get pesky stains out without any trouble. Remember to be gentle and to treat the spot as soon as possible for the best results.
