Before you start, it is important to recognize type of material your garment is made out of. Different materials may require different cleaning methods. For example, you may need to use a gentler approach for more delicate materials like silk or cashmere.
For most materials, you will want to start by dabbing the stain with a clean paper towel or absorbent cloth. Make sure not to scrub the stain, as this could cause it to spread further. Once you've removed as much of the wine as possible, you'll want to begin to treat the stain.
Using a cloth or paper towel, apply a small amount of white vinegar, or a diluted solution of vinegar and water directly onto the stain. This will help to break down the stain and make it easier to remove. Let the solution sit on fabric for a few minutes, then rinse with cold water.
If vinegar solution doesn't effectively remove stain, there are other methods to try that may be more successful. You can buy commercial stain removers specifically designed to tackle tough stains, or you can create a paste of baking soda and water to rub into the stain. Leave it on for a few minutes, then rinse with cold water.
Once the stain has been removed, it is important to properly dry material. Place the garment on a flat surface and allow it to air dry. Alternatively, you can machine-wash the garment with a mild detergent. Make sure to follow care instructions for the specific material to ensure the fabric is not damaged.
