What You'll Need

  • White vinegar
  • Dish soap
  • Hydrogen peroxide
  • Baking soda
  • Cleaning cloth

Step 1: Blot the Stain

Use a clean and dry paper towel or lint-free cloth to blot at the stain gently. Continually move the cloth to another clean section, as you're trying to absorb the liquid rather than spread it.

Step 2: Soak the Stain

Once the majority of the liquid has been blotted away, fill a bowl with warm water and a few drops of dish soap and submerge the stained area. Let it sit in soapy water for 15 to 20 minutes.

Step 3: Remove the Stain

Using a clean cloth, gently scrub the stained area in a circular motion. If the stain is still present, it's time for a stronger solution; mix equal parts white vinegar and water, and dab the solution onto the stain with a clean cloth. Allow it to sit for up to two hours, then rinse the area with warm water.

Step 4: Pretreat the Stain

If the stain still persists, pre-treat the fabric with a commercial spotting product or a solution of hydrogen peroxide and baking soda. Apply it to the stain and allow it to sit for several minutes before rinsing.

Step 5: Wash

Wash the garment according to instructions on its label. For an extra boost of protection, add a specialty detergent or a color-safe bleach.
