What You'll Need

  • Cold water
  • Club soda
  • White vinegar (optional)
  • Baking soda (optional)
  • Soft cloth

Step One: Blot Up the Stain

Using a dry, soft cloth, pat the excess wine off the surface. Be sure not to rub it, as this will only push the stain further into canvas or fabric.

Step Two: Rinse with Cold Water

Using cold water, rinse the affected area of the shoe until the water runs clear. This will help to remove any residual residue.

Step Three: Apply Club Soda

Once you have rinsed wine stain, pour club soda onto a soft cloth and gently rub over the area. This will help to pull the stain out of the fabric.

Step Four: Treat with White Vinegar or Baking Soda (Optional)

If the stain is still present, you may need to use a stronger agent. Try soaking the stain with either white vinegar or baking soda, and then letting it sit for 15 minutes before blotting up with a cloth. Or, try creating a paste by mixing baking soda and water, and rubbing it directly onto the stain for 10 minutes before rinsing with cold water.

Step Five: Rinse Again and Let Air-Dry

Once you've treated the stain, rinse affected area with cold water again, and then let the shoe air dry. Be sure that shoe is drying in a cool, dry place. Avoid direct sunlight.

Summary

By following these easy steps, you can easily remove a red wine stain from your favorite pair of Keds. Just be sure to use cold water, club soda, and white vinegar or baking soda, and follow the instructions carefully.
