It is possible to frequently come across a red wine spill on a sweater or similar article of clothing. Getting rid of these stains effectively takes a bit of effort, but it's totally possible! Here’s a step-by-step guide for removing red wine stains from your jumper:
The first essential step is to soak up as much of the red wine as possible. Place several layers of paper towels over the stain, and then press gently. Do not rub the fabric of your jumper, as this will only spread the stain further. Repeat until most of the liquid has been absorbed.
To one cup of cold water, add one tablespoon of white vinegar. Mix the two ingredients together, and pour the solution onto the stained area of the jumper. Allow it to sit for 10 minutes.
Rinse the area of the jumper with cold water. This will help to break down the stain, as well as remove any residue from the vinegar and water mixture.
Put a small amount of dishwashing liquid directly onto stain. Take a cloth or soft brush, and rub the soap into the stained area in a circular motion. Pay attention to the fibres of the fabric - don’t scrub too hard, as this could damage the fabric.
After scrubbing the stained area, rinse out the jumper with cold water. Make sure that all of the soap is completely rinsed away.
If red wine stain is still visible after the above steps have been completed, you may need to use a commercial stain remover. Follow the instructions on the product to treat the stain before washing jumper.
Place the jumper in the washing machine, and make sure to use the correct cycle and temperature settings, as specified on item's care label. When the washing cycle is complete, check that the stain has been removed. If stain is still present, repeat the steps above.
