The best way to start addressing any stain is by blotting it. Don’t scrub it or rub it in; instead, gently press a dry paper towel into the affected area, giving it that time to absorb any moisture still left in the area.
Now that you’ve blotted up as much of the stain as you can, it’s time to soak the jersey in cold water. Pour enough cold water into a sink or bucket that it covers the stained area. You can add a small amount of detergent if you’d like, but it’s usually not necessary. Let jersey soak for at least an hour, occasionally blotting out any excess moisture that accumulates in the fabric.
Once the jersey has had plenty of time to soak, it’s now time to move on to the washing stage. Run the jersey through a cycle using warm water and your favorite detergent. You can throw it in the washer with other garments, but make sure they share a similar color and material, so you don’t end up with any further staining or damage.
The last step is the most important one – after your jersey has gone through a cycle, take it out and inspect area gently. If you’re satisfied with how clean it looks, let it air-dry or use a tumble dryer on the lowest setting.
Cleaning red wine stains out of your jersey doesn’t have to be a complicated process. Follow these simple steps for the best results and to keep your beloved jerseys looking great for years to come!
