Simply dabbing at the stained area with a cloth isn’t enough - in order to fully remove the stain, you’ll need to follow these instructions:
- Use cold water. When dealing with wine stains on fabric, it’s important to use cold water immediately. This will prevent the stain from setting into the fabric. You may want to use a cold damp towel to blot stain.
- Add detergent and baking soda. Mix ½ teaspoon of laundry detergent and ¼ teaspoon of baking soda into one quart of cold water, then stir. Dip a clean cloth into the mixture and start dabbing at the stained area. Continue until the stain starts to lift away from the fabric.
- Rinse with cold water. Once the stain has started to lift, rinse affected area with cold water. Dab gently with a clean cloth, and then continue rinsing.
- Repeat, if necessary. If the stain is still visible, you can repeat the process until it is completely removed.
Once you’ve finished cleaning the stain, allow the fabric to air dry. Do not put it in the dryer, as this could set stain into the fabric.
These steps should help you easily remove red wine stains from jacquard fabrics. Be sure to act quickly in order to prevent the stain from setting in.
