How to Get Red Wine Stains Out of Clothes with Household Items

Accidents happen, and sometimes red wine spills all over your favorite shirt or dress. If you don't have a stain remover on hand, don't panic - you can still get that pesky red wine stain out using common household items you probably already have in your home.

Step 1: Blot Stain Right Away

Grab an absorbent cloth such as a terry cloth towel and press firmly against the stain. Be sure to blot the stain, not rub it, as this will only spread the stain further onto the fabric.

Step 2: Make a Mixture of Vinegar and Water

Mix a solution of equal parts white vinegar and water, then apply it directly to the stain. If the fabric is light-colored, make sure you test a small, hidden area first to make sure the vinegar won't ruin the color.

Step 3: Let Mixture Soak In

Allow the vinegar and water mixture to soak into the fabric for several minutes. This will help loosen the stain and make it easier to remove.

Step 4: Rinse with Cold Water

Rinse the fabric with cold water, applying pressure with your hands or a soft brush to help break up the stain. Continue to rinse until the stain is gone.

Step 5: Launder as Usual

Once the stain is gone, launder the fabric as you normally would.
