Having a glass of red wine at dinner or a party sometimes comes with an unfortunate cost - a red wine stain on your clothing or accessories. But just because your hat is stained doesn't mean it's ruined. Here are some tried-and-true ways to get those red wine stains out.

Method 1: Dishwashing Soap and Hot Water

This method works best for hats made from cotton, linen, and other fabrics that can easily be washed without damage. First, rinse area with cold water to remove as much of the wine as possible. Then, make a solution using 1 tablespoon of regular liquid dishwashing soap and 2 cups of hot water. Dip a clean cloth into this solution and blot area gently. Rinse the hat with cold water when finished, and hang up to dry.

Method 2: White Vinegar

If you have a wool or other delicate fabric hat, use white vinegar instead. Start by rinsing the stain with cold water. Then, pour white vinegar onto a cloth and rub it gently into the stain. This will help to neutralize the color and lift the stain. Once you've done that, rinse the hat again with cold water and let it air dry.

Method 3: Rubbing Alcohol

For a synthetic material such as polyester or acrylic, try this method out. Blot the stained area with a cloth to remove as much excess wine as you can. Then, pour rubbing alcohol onto a cloth and gently rub stain. Rinse the hat with cold water once you're done, and hang up to dry.

Conclusion

Getting red wine stains out of hats isn't as tough as it may seem. Follow any of these methods to say goodbye to those pesky stains - good as new!
