What You'll Need:

  • Clean white cloths
  • Shampoo or detergent
  • Spoon or dull knife
  • Hydrogen peroxide

Step 1: Remove Excess Wine

Immediately after wine lands on the surface, use a clean white cloth to blot out as much as possible. Be sure not to rub stain, as it will spread.

Step 2: Make an Impromptu Cleaning Solution

Mix one tablespoon of shampoo or detergent with one cup of cool water. Stir it until it is sudsy.

Step 3: Scrape Off Dried Wine

Once the stain has dried, use a spoon or dull knife to scrape off as much of the excess wine as you can. If any of the liquid seeps into the material, don’t worry. Just continue scraping.

Step 4: Apply Soapy Mixture

Dab a clean cloth in the soapy mixture and apply it to the stained area. Use gentle circular motions to scrub stain, but be careful to not damage the material.

Step 5: Rinse and Repeat if Necessary

Rinse the cloth in cool water and dab the handbag to remove the soap. Repeat previous steps if needed. If it is still stained, place a few drops of hydrogen peroxide onto a cloth and carefully scrub the affected area.

Conclusion

Accidents happen, but it doesn’t mean you need to live with the mess! By following these five simple steps, you can easily clean red wine stains from your handbag - restoring it to its former glory. With practice, you’ll be able to tackle any stain that comes your way.
