Blot Immediately

The first step when dealing with a red wine stain is to blot up as much of the liquid as possible. Grab a few paper towels and press them firmly against the affected area. Rinse by dabbing cold running water on the spot. Never rub, as this will spread the stain further into the fabric. Repeat blotting process until all the liquid has been absorbed.

Use a Spot Treament

After the initial blotting, fill a spray bottle with equal parts white vinegar and water. Spray the stain liberally and leave it to sit for a few minutes. Using a brush or sponge, gently scrub the fabric in a circular motion. Rinse the spot with cold water and repeat the treatment if necessary.

For tougher stains, create a paste using baking soda and water. Rub the mixture into the fabric with a cloth and leave it on for 30 minutes before rinsing with cold water. After rinsing, wash your gingham fabric as normal with a mild detergent. Don't forget to wait until piece is completely dry before you wear or store it.
