As soon as you notice a red wine stain on your garment, it’s best to start working on it right away. If you let it sit for too long, it could set more deeply into the fabric, making it more difficult to remove.
Choose cold water to treat the stain. This is because heat can make the stain set more deeply in the fabric. Place soiled area directly under the running tap and allow the cold water to run over the stain for a few minutes.
Once you've soaked stain for a few minutes, take a clean cloth or soft brush and gently rub the affected area. This will help loosen the stain and lift it away. Make sure you use a light touch though, since garter fabrics aren’t as strong as other materials and can become damaged if you’re too rough with them.
If there is still residue left on the fabric after rinsing, spot clean stain with detergent. Use a tiny amount of detergent on the affected area, being careful not to spread the stain. Once you’ve applied the detergent, let it sit for a few minutes, allowing the detergent to dissolve the stain. Then, rinse the spot with cold water.
If the stain is still lingering, use specialized cleaning products. There are many cleaners on the market made specifically for removing red wine stains. Make sure to read the directions and take extra care when using these products on garments made of garter. Finally, rinse the area after applying cleaner to remove any remaining traces of the product.
Finally, if the stain has been successfully removed, you can wash garment on a delicates cycle in your washing machine. To protect the fabric more, we recommend using a special laundry bag.
