Before attempting to remove red wine stain, make sure to pretreat it. This can be done by blotting stain with a dry cloth or paper towel to absorb as much of spilled liquid as possible. Make sure not to rub cloth on the stained area as this may cause the wine to spread and create a bigger mess.
Once you’ve blot the stain with a dry cloth, pour a small amount of cold water directly onto the stain. Subsequently, use a clean cloth or paper towel to gently blot area to remove additional wine from the fabric fibers. Keep repeating this process until the stain begins to fade or no more liquid is coming out.
If the wine stain persists after the above steps, it’s time to apply a pre-wash laundry solution to the area. Use a cotton swab to dab the solution onto the stain. Pay attention that whatever solution you use should match the fabric content of the dress to avoid any discoloration.
Once the stain has been pre-treated, place the dress in washing machine according to the instructions on the care label. If a specific setting is required, make sure to use it. If not, then choose the coldest water possible for the wash cycle.
Once the washing cycle has finished, hang the dress up to dry. Do not put the dress in dryer as the heat may cause the stain to set in permanently. Instead, check to see if the stain has been completely removed and repeat the steps if necessary.
Accidents happen and stains are bound to occur. But with the right technique, you can easily cleanup any red wine stain from your dress with just a few simple steps. Make sure to take precautionary steps in the future to avoid future stains, such as using a stain repellent spray before wearing a new dress.
