The first step to removing red wine stains is to act quickly. If you can get to the stain right away, it’s much easier to remove than if you wait. The longer stain sits, harder it is to get out. You may also have to treat a few times in order to fully remove stain.

Once you’ve located stain, use a spot remover or rubbing alcohol to pre-treat the area. Allow the spot remover or rubbing alcohol to sit for a few minutes before attempting to blot the stain with a clean white cloth. You should do this from the outside of the fabric inwards, so the stain doesn’t spread further.

After you’ve pre-treated the stain, you can launder the fabric as you would normally. Check the garment label to make sure that you’re using right temperature of water and the right type of detergent. For delicate fabrics, you may want to consider handwashing or taking the fabric to a dry cleaner.

If you can’t get the stain out after laundering, you may need to try using an enzyme cleaner. Apply the enzyme cleaner according to the manufacturer’s instructions and then launder the fabric again. This could be enough to get the stain out.

Alternatively, you could try using white vinegar or a specially designed color-safe stain remover. Both should be applied directly to the stain, allowed to sit for a few minutes, and then blotted up with a white cloth. If stain persists, you may need to repeat this process a few times before the stain is gone.

With some patience and persistence, red wine stains on draperies and curtains can usually be removed. Just remember to act quickly when dealing with stains and to use the right techniques for removing them.
