Removing Red Wine Stains in the Moment

The best way to remove a red wine stain is to take action right away. The longer the stain remains, the harder it can be to remove. So if you drip some wine on your coveralls, don't wait to clean it up!

Start by blotting the area with a damp cloth. Blotting is done by firmly pressing the cloth onto the fabric. Make sure you keep dabbing rather than rubbing; this will help prevent the stain from spreading. Never use hot water – this can fix stain into the material, making it more difficult to remove.

Once you've blotted as much of the wine out as possible, add white vinegar or club soda to the stain. Leave it to sit for a few minutes and then wipe it off with a damp cloth. If this doesn't work, combine 1 teaspoon of dishwashing liquid with 4 tablespoons of cold water, and apply the solution to the stain. Let the coveralls air dry, and then check to see if the stain is gone.

Treating Red Wine Stains After Drying

If the red wine stain has had time to set, you may need to use a stronger approach. Start by pre-treating the stain with a pre-wash treatment, such as a laundry detergent, oxygen bleach, or stain remover. Apply the product directly to the stain and let it sit for the amount of time indicated on the package directions.

Next, launder the coveralls according to the manufacturer's instructions. Be sure to use cold water and the correct cycle. Before drying coveralls, check to make sure stain is gone. If it isn't, repeat pre-washing step and launder again.

Preventing Red Wine Stains

The best way to clean red wine stains from coveralls is to avoid getting them in the first place. If you'll be consuming red wine, it's a good idea to wear something that is less likely to be stained. A dark-colored cloth napkin tucked into the collar of your shirt or blouse can be a great way to protect your clothing from splashes or spills.

It's also helpful to have a bottle of stain remover handy, just in case. Knowing how to quickly and easily remove red wine stains from fabrics can help save you a lot of time and energy in the long run!
