Getting red wine on clothing can be an upsetting experience, but it doesn't have to be the end for your favorite cotton canvas item. Whether you got a bit too excited with your glass at a dinner party or accidentally spilled some on yourself, don't despair — you can remove those stains with some simple cleaning methods.
As soon as you notice the red wine spill, grab a clean, white towel and blot the area to soak up any excess. Be careful not to rub it, as this will spread the stain and make it harder to get out later.
Once you've blotted up as much of the spill as possible, mix up a paste of baking soda and white vinegar. The mixture should be thick enough to easily stick to the stained fabric. Take a dampened sponge and spread the paste over the stained area.
Allow the paste to sit for about 15 minutes, then use a damp cloth to gently rub the stained area in a circular motion. The paste should come off easily with the cloth.
Once you've removed the paste, rinse the garment with cold water. This will help to remove any remaining residue from the paste. Hang garment to dry, and if the stain is still visible, repeat steps 2-4 until it is removed.
Removing red wine stains from cotton canvas may seem like an impossible task, but with the right cleaning method it can be done in no time. By using baking soda, white vinegar, and a damp sponge, you can restore your canvas item to its former glory.
