Using a clean, dry microfiber cloth, carefully blot away as much of the excess red wine as possible without making the stain worse. Don't scrub or rub back and forth, this could spread the stain further. Once you have removed as much of wine as possible, the next step is to help break up the stain.
Once you have blotted away all excess wine, pour some white wine over the stain. This will help to break up the red wine stain molecules, making it easier to remove. Let the white wine sit for several minutes, then blot away with a clean cloth.
Mix equal parts white vinegar and water. Dip a sponge in the mixture and apply to the stain. Blot away the excess and allow the vinegar solution to sit for several minutes. This will help to disinfect and further break down the stain.
Sprinkle salt and Borax over wine stain and scrub lightly. This will help to absorb stain and help to break up any remaining particles. Allow the salt and Borax to sit for a few minutes before blotting away the powder.
Using a gentle laundry detergent, wash the item according to the manufacturer's instructions. If stain is still visible, rewash the item with more vigorous agitation. Rinse thoroughly in cold water and air dry.
Removing red wine stains from Battenberg lace is possible with patience and time. By following these five easy steps, you can get your treasured lace tablecloths looking like new again.
