- Clean cloth
- Absorbent material (e.g. paper towel)
- White vinegar
- Dishwashing liquid
- Steam cleaner
- Enzyme-based cleaner
How to Clean Red Wine Stains from Area Rugs
- Blot the stain with a clean cloth or paper towel to absorb as much of the wine as possible.
- Mix one tablespoon of white vinegar with two cups of warm water in a bowl.
- Dip a cloth in the solution and dab onto stain.
- Mix one teaspoon of dishwashing liquid with two cups of warm water in another bowl.
- Soak a cloth in the solution and dab onto stain.
- Continue to blot and dab the area with the two solutions until stain is gone.
- If the stain persists, use a steam cleaner to go over the area.
- If the stain is still not gone, try an enzyme-based cleaner to get rid of the tough stain.
Tips for Preventing Red Wine Stains
- Avoid drinking red wine directly on the rug. Place a coaster or another protective piece underneath.
- Always have some napkins handy in case of spills.
