Step 1: Blot Up Stain

Your first step is to blot up as much of the stain as possible with a clean rag or paper towel. Blot stain gently, not rubbing it too hard, or you may spread the stain further.

Step 2: Pretreat with a Stain Remover

If you can, pretreat the stain with a laundry pretreatment product. Gently rub the solution into the area with a brush or clean rag. Allow it to sit for about ten minutes.

Step 3: Wash Garment

After pretreatment has had time to set, launder the garment according to care instructions on the label. Be sure to use a detergent specifically designed for removing red wine stains, and add a color-safe bleach if needed.

Step 4: Repeat If Necessary

If the stain is still visible, repeat steps two and three as needed. Keep in mind that some red wine stains are just too difficult to remove and may require additional treatments or professional cleaning.
