What You'll Need

  • Baking soda
  • White vinegar
  • Sponge/cleaning cloth
  • Laundry detergent
  • Soft-bristled brush
  • Dish soap

Steps to Follow

  1. Blot up as much of the red wine as possible using a sponge or cleaning cloth.
  2. Mix one part baking soda and one part white vinegar into a paste.
  3. Apply the paste directly onto red wine stain and gently scrub using a soft-bristled brush.
  4. Rinse the paste off with cool water and dry the surface with a clean cloth or towel.
  5. Mix one tablespoon of laundry detergent with a cup of warm water and stir until it is dissolved.
  6. Dip a sponge in the detergent solution and gently scrub stained area in a circular motion.
  7. Rinse the surface with cool water and then wipe it down with a damp cloth.
  8. If the stain still remains, apply a small amount of dish soap directly onto the stain and scrub with a soft-bristled brush.
  9. Rinse the spot with cool water and dry the surface with a clean cloth or towel.

Tips & Tricks

  • If stain has been sitting for a while, you can use a mixture of vinegar, baking soda, and dish soap to help lift the stain.
  • Be sure to blot stain, rather than rubbing it back and forth. This will help to prevent the stain from spreading.
