Remove any cards, papers, or other items that you may have in the wallet and set them aside. If there are any large pieces of debris that you can remove, do so as well. Gently shake the wallet over the sink to get rid of any loose dirt and particles.
Select a cleaning agent that you feel comfortable using on your wallet. A mild detergent such as dish soap is your best bet. Use a damp cloth to apply the detergent to the affected area by gently rubbing it in. Avoid scrubbing too hard, as this could damage the wallet.
Rinse off the wallet with a few splashes of water from the sink. Make sure to squeeze out excess water with a dry cloth or paper towels before letting the wallet air dry. It's important to dry wallet completely before inserting any cards or papers, as this can cause mildew and mold to form.
