Pet stains can ruin any shoe and vans are no exception. Whether your pup has had a few accidents or your cat is prone to drooling, it's important to know how to remove pet stains from your vans before they set in and damage the shoe material.

Step One: Remove the Loose Dirt and Debris

The first step to cleaning pet stains from your vans is to vacuum away the loose dirt and debris that may have been left behind by your pet. Make sure to go over the affected area multiple times to ensure that all of the dirt and debris has been removed. You can also use a lint roller or a soft bristled brush to help remove any excess fur.

Step Two: Dilute the Stain with Water and Detergent

Once the majority of the debris from the stain has been removed, it’s time to mix some mild detergent with warm water and use a cloth or sponge to dab and scrub the stained area. Be sure to not scrub too hard as that could cause the stain to spread and set in further. Let the mixture sit for a few minutes before rinsing it off with cold water.

Step Three: Treat the Stain with a Mixture of White Vinegar and Baking Soda

After rinsing the area with cool water, mix a ratio of 1-part white vinegar to 2-parts baking soda to form a paste-like solution. Then, use a cloth or soft brush to spread the mixture over the stained area. Leave the mixture on for at least 20 minutes before removing it with a damp cloth. If the stain persists, repeat this process until area is clean.

Step Four: Allow the Area to Dry Completely

Finally, it is important to allow the clean area to completely dry before wearing van. This will help prevent the stain from setting in further as well as maintain the overall look and feel of the shoe.

Additional Tips for Cleaning Pet Stains from Vans

  • Always use a mild detergent when cleaning pet stains as stronger chemicals may damage the shoe material.
  • Avoid using heat when cleaning pet stains as this can cause the stain to set in further.
  • If stain persists, try using club soda instead of white vinegar and baking soda to help break down the stain.
