Before you begin, lay the t-shirt flat and blot stain with a paper towel. This will help remove any excess moisture as well as some of the stain itself. Afterwards, pour a small amount of laundry detergent onto the stain and rub it in gently with a scrub brush or toothbrush. Allow the detergent to sit for 10 minutes before washing.
Wash the t-shirt in warmest water setting allowed for the fabric type, usually cold or warm. Wash the t-shirt separately so that it does not transfer the stain to other items, and add one cup of white vinegar to the wash cycle. Vinegar is known to eliminate odors and break down oils that can discolor fabric.
Once the shirt is finished washing, take it out of the washer and inspect the stain. If it is still visible, repeat the pre-treating and washing steps. If the stain has been successfully removed, go ahead and put the shirt in the dryer on the lowest heat setting. The heat from the dryer will help set the stain, ensuring that it won’t return after the t-shirt has been washed multiple times.
