Stains on a suit can be intimidating to take on, especially if they come from a beloved pet. Fortunately, pet stains can often be removed.

Below we’ll cover a few steps for how to clean pet stains from suits, and have that outfit looking sharp again in no time.

Step One: Blot, Don't Rub

The most important step, particularly if your suit is made of delicate material, is to make sure not to rub the stain. Instead, place a dry cloth onto the spot and press down firmly. This will help to absorb some of liquid from the stain.

Step Two: Rinse With Cold Water

For a water-based stain like pet urine, adding cold water to the stain can help to dilute it. Use a cloth and dab the stain with cold water. Once you’ve worked some of stain out, rinse cloth until the water runs clear.

Step Three: Apply The Right Cleaner

To really tackle pet stains, using a specific cleaner designed for pet stains is a good starting point. Working with the grain of the fabric, apply a small amount of the cleaner to the spot and rub gently. Depending on the product you’re using, you may need to allow the cleaner to sit for a few minutes before rinsing it off.

Step Four: Rinse With Water

After you’ve allowed the cleaner to do its job, it’s time to rinse out the stain. Again, be sure to use cold water to avoid setting the stain into the fabric. Again work with grain of the material and use a damp cloth to rinse away any traces of the stain.

Step Five: Dry and Repeat

After you’ve rinsed the spot, lay garment flat to dry. If the stain isn’t completely gone, you may need to repeat steps three and four. Be sure to check the care instructions of your suit to ensure the cleaner you’re using won’t damage fabric.

Keeping Your Suits Pet-Stain Free

By following our five steps, you can get that dreaded pet stain out of your suit in no time. Preventative measures, such as shampooing your pet regularly, can also help to keep extra messes at bay. Additionally, washing your hands after handling your pet can help reduce the risk of getting those stubborn stains onto your clothing.
