A pet stain on your favorite silk shantung can be a source of great frustration. With its delicate fibers, silk is one of the more difficult fabrics to clean, especially when it comes to pet stains. But with the right approach, you can get your silk shantung looking and smelling as good as new.
The first step to successful stain removal is to act quickly. As soon as possible, blot the stain with a cloth to absorb as much liquid as possible. Don't rub or scrub—this can cause the stain to spread even further.
Once you've blotted the stain, mix a solution of warm water, mild dish soap, and white vinegar. Test the mixture on an inconspicuous area of your garment to make sure the solution won't cause further damage. When you've confirmed that it's safe, soak the stain in the solution for 15 minutes or so.
After soaking the stain, rinse the garment thoroughly with warm water. This should help remove some of the staining. If the stain persists, repeat steps two and three until the stain is gone.
Finally, lay your garment out to dry. After it's dried, inspect the area to make sure the stain has been completely removed. If not, repeat the process until the stain is gone.
