Silk organza is a delicate fabric that requires special care when cleaning. Cleaning pet stains can be especially tricky because of the fabric’s fragility. Here are some tips for removing pet stains from silk organza without damaging the fabric.
Before attempting to remove pet stains from silk organza, pre-treat the fabric by blotting the area with a solution of vinegar and water. To make solution, combine ½ cup of white vinegar with 2 cups of warm water in a spray bottle. Spray the solution onto the stain and let it sit for 10 minutes. Blot the area with a clean cloth or paper towel. This will help to lift the stain from the fabric.
Once you have pre-treated the fabric, create a cleaning solution by combining 1 teaspoon of mild detergent with 1 quart of warm water. Dip a clean cloth or sponge into the solution and then gently dab the stained area. Work the detergent into the fabric and blot away any excess moisture with a dry cloth. Be careful not to rub the fabric too hard—silk is delicate and can easily tear.
Once you have cleaned the stain, rinse the area with cold water. Gently blot the fabric with a clean, damp cloth. Allow the fabric to air dry or use a blow dryer set on a low heat setting.
If the stain is still visible, repeat the cleaning process. Carefully pre-treat, clean and rinse the stain until it disappears.
If all else fails, it’s best to call a professional cleaner to tackle the stubborn stain. A professional will have the tools and knowledge needed to safely and effectively remove pet stains from silk organza.
