Before you begin attempting to tackle the pet stain, it's important to make sure you have all the necessary supplies. You will need a few different cleaning solutions, some clean cloths, a plastic spoon, and a few items from around the house. Here’s a list of the supplies you will need:
Once you have collected all of your supplies, you should begin the pre-cleaning process. Start by gently scraping off any solids with a plastic spoon. Be careful not to rub too hard as this could damage the delicate fabric. Then, use a spray bottle to lightly mist the area with water. This will help to lift the stain out of the fabric.
Now that you have removed any solid residue, it’s time to move on to the actual cleaning process. Start by testing a small, hidden area of fabric with each of your cleaning solutions to make sure they do not discolor or damage the fabric. Then, starting with white vinegar, apply a few drops to the stained area and blot gently with a clean cloth. Allow the white vinegar to sit for five minutes before moving on to the next solution.
Next, mix a solution of one tablespoon of mild detergent with one cup of warm water and apply it to the stain. Again, allow the solution to sit for five minutes before proceeding. Finally, sprinkle a light layer of baking soda onto the stain and press lightly into the fabric with your fingers. Allow the baking soda to sit for one hour before wiping it away with a damp cloth.
Once you have completed the above steps, it’s time to move on to the finishing process. Place a clean cloth over the stain and use a heavy book to press down and remove any remaining moisture. Then, use a warm iron to press area. Make sure to use a low heat setting as high heat can damage delicate fabrics like silk. Finally, allow the fabric to air dry overnight before wearing or using it.
