Step 1: Remove Solids and Liquids with Paper Towels

The first step is to gently remove any solids from the surface of your shearling material. Use a paper towel to blot away as much of the liquid as possible. Make sure to use a gentle patting motion so that the pile does not get flattened during the cleaning.

Step 2: Pre-Treat the Stain

Once you’ve removed as much solid material and liquid as possible, it’s time to pre-treat stain. Choose a mild detergent, like Woolite, and mix it with warm water. Dip a soft cloth or sponge into the solution and dab it over affected area. Be sure to not scrub too hard or you may damage the shearling.

Step 3: Rinse Area with Cold Water

Rinse the affected area with cold water. This will help to prevent the stain from setting into the fabric. Use a wet cloth to gently remove the pre-treatment mixture, then blot area dry with a fresh cloth.

Step 4: Air Dry the Area

To avoid damaging shearling, do not put it in the washing machine or dryer. Instead, allow the area to air dry. If you are concerned about the odor, try sprinkling baking soda over the area and leaving it for several hours before vacuuming it up.

Conclusion

By following these steps, you should be able to clean pet stains and other messes from your shearling with minimal effort. Just remember to be gentle when cleaning and to always air dry the area once you’ve finished.
