Before you start cleaning the stain, use a spoon or a spatula to scrape away any excess liquid or solid matter from the stain. This will help to reduce the amount of material that needs to be removed once you start cleaning.
Gently blot the stained area with a cloth, using a dabbing motion rather than rubbing, to absorb as much moisture as possible. You may wish to use an old towel or piece of paper towel for this step, as fabric may be damaged if you use a cloth that is too abrasive.
Spray the stain with a pre-treatment spray designed for satin fabrics. Follow the instructions on the packaging. This should help to loosen the stain and make it easier to remove.
For most stains, laundering in cold water should be sufficient to remove stain. Use a gentle detergent if necessary. However, if the stain is still visible after washing, you may need to repeat steps 3 and 4.
Air drying is always preferable to machine drying, as heat from a dryer can often cause satin fabric to shrink or become discolored. To air-dry the fabric, hang it over a clothes rack or a towel rack near a window.
Once fabric has dried, check the stain to make sure it has been removed. If the stain is still visible, you may need to repeat steps 3 and 4.
