Before Cleaning

Before you reach for any cleaning solutions, it’s important to properly address the mess by doing following:

  • Act quickly. The sooner you clean the stain, the better the chances of preventing long-term damage or discoloration.
  • Absorb as much of the mess as possible with paper towels.
  • Avoid scrubbing or rubbing the stain, as this could damage your purse and make the stain worse.

Leather Purses

For leather purses, use a gentle and non-toxic cleaner like natural dish washing liquid or white vinegar mixed with lukewarm water. Do a patch test to ensure that the mixture won’t discolor your purse. Then using a dampened soft cloth, blot the stain and then dab the area with a dry cloth.

Fabric Purses

For fabric purses, mix one part white vinegar with two parts lukewarm water and one tablespoon of cornstarch. This mixture will help get rid of odors and lift the stain out of the fabric. Rub mixture directly onto the stain and then dip a dry cloth into clean, cold water and dab the area.

Post Cleaning Care

After cleaning stain, air dry your purse and store it in a cool, dry place. You may also want to take further steps to deep clean and condition your purse. For leather, apply natural leather cleaner or Conditioner to give it a shine and to prevent the color from fading. For fabric, use a mild detergent or fabric softener if stain isn’t completely gone.
