Steps for Cleaning Pet Stains from Pumps
- Make a cleaning solution. Start by filling a spray bottle with a mixture of equal parts white vinegar and water. This combination is great for removing odors as well as pet stains.
- Spray the affected area. Liberally apply the cleaning solution to the stains. Let it sit for 10 to 15 minutes before proceeding.
- Scrub the area with a cloth. Take a clean cloth and scrub the stained area with a circular motion. You should see the stains start to break up.
- Mix baking soda and enzyme laundry detergent. Combine 1/4 cup of enzyme laundry detergent with 2 tablespoons of baking soda in a bowl. Stir until the ingredients are combined.
- Apply the baking soda and detergent mixture. Use a clean cloth or a laundry brush to rub the mixture into the stain. Don’t be afraid to really scrub it in!
- Let mixture sit for 15-30 minutes. After you’ve applied the mixture, let it sit for 15-30 minutes to give it time to work its magic.
- Wipe away the mixture and vacuum. Use a damp cloth to wipe away mixture and then go over area with a vacuum.
Important Tips to Keep in Mind
- Always test the cleaning solution on a small, inconspicuous area first to make sure it doesn’t cause any discoloration.
- Be patient and take your time. Scrubbing too hard or too fast won’t get the job done!
- If the stains are very stubborn, you may need to repeat these steps several times.
- You may need to get the shoes professionally cleaned if the stains don’t come out.
