Step 1: Scrape off Solid Matter

Using a spoon or spatula gently scrape off any solid matter from the stained area. Be sure to scrap lightly, as you don't want to damage the fabric.

Step 2: Blot the Stain

If there is still some moisture left, dab the stain with a paper towel or a clean cloth. Do not rub; instead, blot the stain so that more of the liquid is absorbed. Work from the outside of the stain towards the middle.

Step 3: Pre-Treat Stain

Now that you've blotted the stain, use a pre-treatment spray or solution and apply it directly onto the stain. Let the pre-treatment sit for about 5 minutes before washing.

Step 4: Wash

Use cold water and a mild detergent to wash the parka. Set washing machine to a gentle cycle, and if necessary, use a small amount of bleach to help remove the stain. After the coat is washed, check stain; it should be gone. If not, repeat steps 1-4 again.

Step 5: Air Dry

Once the parka has been washed, hang it up to air dry. Do not put it in the dryer, as the dryer can set the stain and make it harder to remove.

Bonus Tips

  • Typically, pre-treating and washing a jacket will work for most pet stains, however if the stain is still visible after washing, try using a stain remover or an enzyme cleaner specifically designed for pet stains.
  • Avoid using hot water to wash the parka, as this could cause the stain to set into the fabric.
  • Always check care label before washing the coat, as some fabrics require special attention.
