Step 1: Blot the Stain

As soon as you notice the stain, get a clean, dry cloth and gently dab the area. Do not rub, as this could spread the stain. If the stain is still wet, try to absorb as much of the liquid as you can.

Step 2: Pretreat

Create your pretreatment solution by combining a tablespoon of white vinegar and a teaspoon of dishwashing liquid with a cup of warm water. Spray the mixture onto the stain and allow it to sit for a few minutes. After several minutes, blot the stained area with a clean, dry cloth.

Step 3: Wash

Once you’ve pre-treated the stain, launder your pants as you normally would. Make sure that you use the warmest water setting recommended on the care label and add a laundry detergent you trust. Also, it’s best to include an enzyme-based stain remover.

Step 4: Check When Finished

After the washing cycle is complete, check pants to see if any of the stain remains. If it does, repeat the above steps until the stain is completely gone.

Additional Tips for Pet Stains on Pants

  • It’s important to keep up with laundering garments with pet stains. Don’t let them sit in laundry basket for days. Treat and launder as soon as possible.
  • Always check the care label on your garment before laundering. Some fabrics may require special treatment.
  • If the stain remains, try repeating the pretreatment process with either club soda or hydrogen peroxide.
