Before attempting to remove the pet stain, it is important to first vacuum the area. This will help to remove any loose dirt and debris that could impede the cleaning process. Use the upholstery attachment on your vacuum to ensure that all of the pet hair and dirt is removed.
Mix together equal parts water and white vinegar. You can also use a commercial cleaner specifically designed for pet stains. Make sure to follow the instructions on the bottle to ensure that you are using the proper strength solution for the job.
Spray the solution directly onto the stain. Allow the solution to sit for several minutes, allowing it to penetrate stain and loosen it. You may need to repeat this step several times for stubborn stains.
Once the solution has had time to penetrate the stain, use a dry towel to gently blot the area. Do not rub, as this could cause the stain to spread instead of being removed. Continue to use towel until the stain is no longer visible.
Once the stain is removed, rinse the area with warm water. This will help to remove any remaining residue and prevent the stain from reappearing. Use a damp cloth dipped in clean water and gently pat the area dry.
To protect the area and prevent future staining, apply a carpet or fabric protector to the area. This will help to repel liquids and keep the area clean.
