The most important thing to do is to blot the stain rather than rub it. Start by using a paper towel or a clean cloth to absorb any excess liquid from around the affected area. Don’t scrub the fabric as this could finish spreading the stain further.
Create a mild detergent solution - such as a mixture of dish soap and water - and apply the pre-treatment onto the stain. Gently dab the pre-treatment onto the stain as opposed to rubbing or scrubbing it in. Let the solution sit for around 30 minutes and then rinse with cold water.
Once the stain has been pre-treated, pop the jersey in the wash. Make sure you check the clothing care label to determine the correct washing temperature for the fabric. Then, add the detergent of your choice and launder as usual. Choose a gentle cycle if possible.
If stain still persists after going through the wash, you may want to try using a stain remover. Before using any product, read the instructions provided. Pre-treat stain by spraying it liberally and then launder again at same temperature setting as before.
To avoid shrinking the fabric, it's best to let the jersey air dry. If you're short on time and need to use a clothes dryer, choose a low setting and remove the jersey as soon as it's dry.
