Things You Will Need
- Down detergent or mild liquid soap
- Soft cloth
- Bucket filled with lukewarm water
- Hair dryer (optional)
Steps to Clean Pet Stains from Your Down Jacket
- Mix one part down detergent or mild liquid soap with five parts lukewarm water in a bucket.
- Dip a soft cloth into the soapy mixture and gently dab stained area. Try not to rub the stained area too hard as you do not want to damage the down feathers.
- Leave the soapy mixture on the stain for at least 10 minutes, then rinse the area with warm water.
- If the stain still remains, repeat steps above.
- Once the area is free from stains, use a hair dryer to dry the area thoroughly. On a low heat setting, move the dryer around the stained area until all of it is completely dry.
Additional Tips
- Check the care instructions on the label inside the jacket before you start cleaning.
- Be extra gentle when dealing with a down jacket as it may easily tear when rubbed too hard.
- Do not use hot water as this can damage the feathery texture of the down jacket.
