Oxford fabric is a sturdy cotton weave, making it a popular choice for furniture upholstery, clothing, and more. It's ideal for pets because it often holds up better than other fabrics against fur, claws, and whatever messes come along. However, all pet owners know that, no matter how hard you try to avoid them, stains are inevitably going to happen.

Cleaning Pet Stains from Cotton Oxford Method

For smaller stains, dab the affected area with a cloth dampened with water. You may also consider using a stain remover or a bit of laundry detergent diluted with water. If necessary, use a soft brush to gently remove any dried-on substances. Rinse the spot with a clean cloth soaked with cold water and blot dry.

For tougher stains, try using a two-step approach. Begin by mixing one part white vinegar with one part water into a bowl. Dip a brush into the mixture and lightly scrub away at the stain. Once the stain is fully saturated, rinse the area with cold water and blot dry. For the second step, mix one part hydrogen peroxide and one part water in a separate bowl. Using a clean cloth, apply the mixture directly onto the stain and let it soak for about 15 minutes. Finally, rinse the stain with cold water and blot dry.

Note that hot water should never be used on pet stains. Hot water can actually set the stain permanently into fabric, which makes the stain virtually impossible to remove.

Preventing Pet Stains on Cotton Oxford

Cleaning pet stains off of cotton oxford is a lot easier when there’s less of a mess to begin with! Try to prevent pet stains before they happen by using pet repellent spray. Pet repellent helps discourage pets from urinating or clawing on your favorite items. Furthermore, make sure to keep an eye on your pet while they are inside, and train them to know the difference between acceptable and unacceptable behavior.
