If the stain is still fresh, you should act fast to make sure it does not set. Begin by blotting up as much of the accident as possible using a paper towel or absorbent cloth. Avoid scrubbing the affected area, as this can cause stain to spread.
Next, mix together a solution of one part white vinegar and two parts water. Using a clean cloth or sponge, apply the mixture directly onto the stained area, and then blot with an absorbent cloth. You may need to repeat the process several times until the stain has disappeared.
After stain has been removed, rinse the area with cold water, and then allow it to air dry.
For older stains, you will need to use a stronger cleaner. Begin by blotting up as much of the accident as possible using a paper towel or absorbent cloth. For tougher stains, you can use a soft brush to loosen the stain.
Mix a solution of ¼ cup of laundry detergent and a quart of warm water. Apply the solution to the affected area using a clean cloth or sponge, and then use an absorbent cloth to blot up the stain. Repeat the process until the stain is no longer visible.
Once the stain has been removed, rinse the area with cold water, and then allow it to air dry.
Of course, the best way to deal with pet stains is to prevent them in the first place. Make sure to regularly vacuum the area to remove dirt and fur that can attract pets. If possible, cover areas with furniture throws or blankets to protect them from accidents.
You may also want to consider training your pet to go to the bathroom outside. This will significantly reduce the number of accidents in the house, and help keep your upholstery looking its best for longer.
